Time enough at last

In the class, we read a short story. It was about this one man who really loves to read, Henry. He wanted to read books but his wife won’t let him. When he was at work, he was in a banks vault, and all the sudden he hears crashing sound outside. He got out and discovers that everything had collapsed outside. He observed outside but couldn’t find anybody. He was exhausted but finds a book, library during his observation. When he thought he could read books as long as he want, he find out that glasses which he need was broken.

We also saw a movie of it. When I first read a book , I couldn’t really understand what has happened but I understood when I saw it. I wonder why his wife won’t let him read. I feel really sorry for Henry. I was shocked by the ending. I hope he will be saved after he is alone in the land where everything is collapsed.

I couldn’t understand what was the message of this story… But, I thought I should everyday more carefully that if this happens to me, it wouldn’t be like him.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

I chose this book because it is a really famous story and I thought it was fun to read because I have only saw a movie of it.

Alice is the main character of this book and she was sittting on a riverbank on a warm day. She suddently caught a sight of a white rabbit wearing a clothe rushing. She followed the rabbit and saw the rabbit poping in to a rabbit hole. She also followed the rabbit and gets into the hole. Under the ground, there was this beautiful place where she had never seen before. But, she was afraid that she will never be able to go back in the real world. In that wonderland, she dicovers strange medicine, unique characters and meets Queen of hearts who rules the wonderland. As the story goes on, Alice go through many difficult situations. She tries to find a way to solve that problems and also find her way to go home.

I already new the story but it was good to read this because I could imagine the scene better than to just watch a movie. It has lots of words to describe the scenes so it was fun to read. I recommend this book to those who have never read a book of Alice in wonderland.

Christmas Carol

I read this around Christmas but I forgot to upload it on my blog!!

This story was about a man called Ebenezer Scrooge, a misery, cold hearted man. This story begins in Christmas Eve but he skips every fun things in the eve. Including party, dinner and so Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly, cold-hearted creditor, continues his stingy, greedy ways on Christmas Eve. At that night, Scrooge’s former partner Jacob Marley, who has been dead for seven years, visits him as a ghost. He became a ghost as a punishment of consuming with only business and not with people around him. He came to Scrooge’s house trying to save him because he might be a ghost too. He tells him Three Spirits will come including Christmas past, present, and yet. They will show various visions to him. On the next day, he changes his mind on the Christmas Day.

I thought this book was really good. I heard that there is also a movie of this story so I want to watch it if I have a chance!!

The Devil Wears Prada

I choose this book because I have saw a movie and I really liked it.

Main character of this book is Andrea who is a new graduate of university and hoping to find a job in NY. Her dream is to become a publisher of the New Yorker. However she became a second assistant of Miranda Priestly who is an editor of magazine, Runway. Although it was not first job that she wanted to do, she works hard for her cruel boss. Her environment changed greatly through her job including her family, friends, and boy friend. Working with Miranda had made her change her style, fashion and also her personality. I think this story tells reader that life is full of choices and it depends on themselves which way you go.

I really liked this book. I think it was a little different from its movie. From this book, I found out that environment that surround me is important and it may change my way of thinking. Like Andrea, you might forget what it was like before. You get adapted in that environment. I want to make a good decision in the future even I’m in difficult situation.

My article was about dengue fever is spreading in Ochard, Singapore. Which is also called break bone fever. The source of the infection was a construction site. Since it is near the shopping area that is really famous in Singapore , it is predicted that customers would decrease. It will be a real damage to Singapore’s economy because this shopping area is most known for both citizens and tourists from all around the world. Also it is almost Christmas and New Year so I think it will be a damage.

I thought government should close shopping mall and construction site to stop spreading this disease. It will be a damage for economy but, this disease is dangerous. There are some people who died from it.

The news discussion was really interesting to hear. I learned many things from it:)
In the discussion, I asked my group what would you do if you were to chose to close the store or just let it open. Everyone were thinking hard and said it is a difficult question. But in the end, they said that it should be closed because if it keep it open, it will increase the infector.

The kite runner

I chooses this book because one of my friend recommend this book to me.

This story takes place in Afghanistan. Their are two boys named Amir and Hassan. Amir is a son of Baba who is wealthy man in this area. Hassan is Ali’s son who is a servant of Baba. Although Amir and Hassan have a different background, they were good friends. But one trouble occurred any that became the reason to separate them apart. Amir was weak and had not much courage like Hassan had. Amir thought Hassan as best friend but he sometimes felt jealous. He betrays Hassan and leaves Afghanistan. From then, they never met each other. However, he heard on the news that where Hassan lived was attacked by another country and was a disaster. So then Amir started to search Hassan because he was always guilty about what he did in the past.

This is a really deep friendship story. It can tell you many important lessons. I found out that there is a movie so I want to try looking at it if I have time.

Les misèrables

I chose this book because I liked the movie very much!

The main character of this book is Jean Valjean. Who is released from French prison after 19years for stealing one piece of bread. After he is released, he tries to find a shelter but nobody let him sleep because he is ex-convict. But, Myriel who is in charge of the church kindly gave him a place to warm up and sleep. But the next day, Valijean tries to escape by stealing silvers from the church. He was arrested for stealing but Muriel said it was a gift for him to save him. From then, he promised to be a honest man. Time went by and he became a mayor of the city. From then he meets a lot of people who will change his life afterwards including the prison guards that once was in charge of him when he was in prison.

I really liked this book. This story makes me want to cry every time I read. It is a good book to know about French Revolution too. I really recommend you reading this book and see the movie too.

Macbeth

I choose this because this book is famous and I have read Romeo and Juliet before so I thought I might try other Shakespeare’s book.

Macbeth is the main character in this book. He encounter three witches and they told him that you will become a king although he didn’t believe it, as the story goes on, other prediction that they made actually came real. So he started to believe that he will be a king. Him and his wife started to plan a way to kill the king so that he could become a king. The plan was successful but they were people who noticed about this plan. So he tries to murder them as well as the king. However, some have escaped. From then, he went insane because he was afraid that someone might kill him for revenge. He went to see witches to ask what will fear him the most. The witches advised him. But, he faces some difficulties…
Does Macbeth’s plan work out??

I thought this story was really thrilling and fun to read. It was a little difficult for me to read because some of the words were old words. But I think it is worth reading it. If you enjoyed reading Romeo and Juliet, you might want to try another type of Shakespeare.!

I read The Successor by Paul Bowie

Summary
The main character is Ali he’s a man. He visits his brother who is working in cafe away from a town. This cafe was owned by their father but he was ordered older brother to take care of the cafe. However, his brother is a bit lazy so Ali was asked to help him. When Ali is sitting by the olive tree, he noticed that the storm is coming from the mountain.
Then suddenly, stranger knocked on the front door. He started to have a conversation with his brother. They seemed to be enjoying their conversation. Then stranger gave him mysterious bag. Few weeks later, his brother was arrested for murder.
You will have to find out why!!

I thought this story was very mysterious. The first time I read this, I didn’t really understand at all. But when I read it again, I started to understand! I liked how this author describes the nature. He uses different expressions to describe the scene.

I enjoyed reading short stories to classmates it seems easy to read children’s book but to read to an audience was hard. All of the story we shared was unique. I especially liked how they use colorful colors and has a cute illustration.

Children’s book!

I read 3 books!

Of those three, I thought “Mrs. Armitage on wheel” was fun to read. This book’s picture is also famous for drawing Ronald Dahl’s book. In this book, she is riding bicycle. Through her rides, she keeps on remodeling her bicycle conveniently. But, she did too much….
At the end, her bicycle collapsed.

I think that this book tells us a lesson that don’t be greedy. Because she wanted everything on the bicycle, her bicycle collapsed. In this book, it repeated the same phrase so I think it is easy to read for children.
